Numbers are a big part of the human experience.
We use numbers to measure things like our intelligence, when we need to go to bed, how long we’ve been alive, our height, when we get to leave work, and when it’s too cold to go outside.
We use other numbers to determine things like who’s the better football team, what a safe speed is on the interstate, and when it might be time to cut back on the sweets and head to the gym.
Numbers are a huge part of our daily lives, but at Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue, we have one number that we’re particularly fond of…
Now, I know. You’re probably guessing that 186 is our favorite number because...
186 Celuta is a large S-type asteroid.
No? Then maybe you think it’s because 186 is the least you can weigh to compete in the light heavyweight division in mixed martial arts.
That’s not it. It’s probably because 186 is the atomic number of an element temporarily called Unocthexium. Try saying that 3 times fast. Heck, try saying it once.
Or maybe you think we love the number 186 because it’s the number of odd days in a non-leap year.
Ok, since you’ve exhausted all the obvious guesses, I’ll just come out and tell you why we love the number 186.
An Incredible Milestone
2015 was Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue’s very first calendar year. And in that first year, we didn't waste a lot of time planning, thinking, and talking about rescuing dogs.
Nope. We jumped right in with both feet, and in that first calendar year we helped 186 dogs find their forever homes.
To put that in perspective, that means if you saved this dog…
and then this dog…
and then this one…
And then you did that 183 more times… well, you get the idea. That’s a ton of dogs.
Above and Beyond 186...
But on the more serious side, in terms of a first year rescue, 186 is an unheard of first year.
That's a phenomenal number of dogs saved in our first year. And no corners were ever cut to hit it. Families and dogs were matched based on each other’s needs, because it’s not just about numbers, it's about finding a perfect match and a permanent home for these animals. In 2016 we hope to help over 200 dogs find their forever homes.

And keep in mind that the 186 does not include another 100 or so dogs and cats we helped find permanent homes through our networking, training, and support services. We were to pull off this incredible number in our first year because of all the help from our devoted, passionate volunteers.
And while helping all these animals find loving, permanent homes, Muddy Paws also found time to go above and beyond for even more animals, families, and other rescue organizations. You can learn more about what makes Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue different here.
